I have arrived! (yeah right)

Dear Coley,

Well, I officially live in the city now!  My parents and I drove up Sunday, stayed in Harrisburg PA over night, and then on Monday….and Tuesday moved into my new place.  It was not the easiest move I have ever accomplished, however, after 6hrs, one back alley, a freight elevator that only Madelyn Russ could figure out how to use (it has been re-affirmed that my mother is an angel), 327 screws/bolts/thingamajigs (thank you IKEA), 7 trips down to re-pay the parking meter (thank you Tommy Russ), and 9 loads from the moving van…. we were half way through the move! Monday completely kicked our butts! So, by Tuesday we were running on fumes, when my parents (again, amazing humans) took me to Walmart and a grocery store to stock my apartment.  Let me tell you- it is interesting when you know you will not have a car for 6 months (to just scoot over the local Harris Teeter for some whatever) and yet you only have 42 inches of space to stock pile supplies (reminder, I live in my kitchen)!  So, we did what we could, and then……my parents left me (I make it sound like I was a lost puppy dropped off at the corner, because that is how it initially felt).  I was/am alone…. in the city.  I am convinced once I find a Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda I will feel much better, but being alone in a city where I know…. no one…… isn’t exactly what I pictured.  Yet, I sit here, haha.
I did venture out Tuesday afternoon into the city and made some great discoveries:
~ Rittenhouse Square, (famous in this city of mine) is just two blocks from my apartment.  I sat and read for a while on a bench (and also did some people watching which was pretty fun).
~There is a H&M three blocks down the street….. not that I will have any money to spend now that the federal government is officially paying for my lifestyle, but I swear, I WILL buy something if I manage to get a respectable grade in my Advanced Patho class!
~  There is also a Barnes and Nobel (which automatically brought a little tear to my eye) and McDonalds just a few blocks away….. staples from home :) I bought a street map of Philadelphia in B&N (which I will only dorkily look at in the privacy of my apartment, I am determined to not be seen as a tourist).
A little market two blocks North does in fact have fresh foods, and some junk I love, at decent prices   (gotta have the essentials).

Ok, enough about my neighborhood.  I will post some stuff about my actual apartment later, and tomorrow I am headed to campus to do some exploring so I will submit a full report.

I miss you like crazy!  When I sit and think about how I actually live here now, and it is not just a weekend trip, it is very overwhelming.  How is the country treating you?  You better send me some details!

Kiss the confederates for me love.

Courtney

  1. Love it! Court you make me miss living in the city! It may take some time, but it will eventually feel like home - trust me (well not literally, as there are probably no cows, but you know what I mean...).
